Sagittarius season is the last full sign of the astrological year before the solstice. The Sun crosses 0 degrees of Sagittarius at 07:23 UTC on November 22, 2026 and reaches 0 degrees of Capricorn at 20:50 UTC on December 21, the northern winter solstice.

The mood lifts after Scorpio. Sagittarius is a mutable fire sign ruled by Jupiter, the planet of expansion, faith and luck, and its season turns attention from what lies beneath to what lies beyond: travel, study, belief, publishing, honesty and the search for something bigger than the daily grind.

What it means now

Where Scorpio merged, Sagittarius ranges. The sign wants distance, perspective and a story big enough to hold what the last six weeks dredged up. After a Venus retrograde that brought old loves back and a Mercury retrograde that reopened old conversations, this is the season for saying plainly what you now believe and pointing yourself somewhere.

The practical shape is a release of pressure. Plans that stalled through October and November move. Travel, courses, applications and publishing all get a green light. The Sagittarius shadow is the same as its gift: too much, too far, too fast, and a truth told bluntly enough to wound. Aim before you fire.

Both retrogrades are over, and the shadows clear inside the season

Mercury turned direct on November 13 and Venus followed the same evening. Neither is fully clear of its retrograde ground when the season begins. Mercury returns to 20 degrees 59 minutes of Scorpio, the degree it stationed at, on November 30. Venus returns to 8 degrees 29 minutes of Scorpio on December 15.

Use those two dates as your permissions. From November 30, decisions about communication, contracts and travel are back on normal footing. From December 15, love and money decisions are fully your own again, made with everything the retrograde taught you.

The Beaver Moon on Uranus

Two days into the season the Full Moon rises at 2 degrees 21 minutes of Gemini, within a degree and a half of Uranus. The Sun opposes Uranus exactly the next day, November 25. The Moon is also within a day of perigee, its closest approach to Earth, so it looks unusually large and bright: a near-supermoon by the strict distance rule and a full supermoon by the looser one most almanacs use.

Uranus on a Full Moon means surprise. News arrives, a plan changes, someone says the unexpected thing. Gemini makes it about words and information. Sun trine Neptune the same day softens the shock into something more like revelation. If your Thanksgiving table gets interesting this year, this is why. Treat the surprise as data and decide after the weekend.

Mars into Virgo, and a Thanksgiving with a Cancer Moon

Mars leaves Leo for Virgo on November 25 after nearly two months of loud fire energy, capped by its conjunction with Jupiter on November 16. In Virgo, drive gets precise: work, health, repairs and the fixing of small broken things. The shadow is criticism sharpened into a weapon, and it enters the day before US Thanksgiving. The Moon moves into Cancer that morning, which pulls the holiday back toward home, food and family feeling. Let Mars fix the dinner, not the relatives.

Jupiter, the ruler, turns retrograde in Leo

Sagittarius is ruled by Jupiter, and Jupiter spends the season in Leo, a fire sign in harmonious trine to Sagittarius. That is a generous, confident placement for the season's ruler. On December 13 Jupiter stations retrograde at 27 degrees 01 minute of Leo and begins four months of review. Big plans launched in the first three weeks of the season get a second look from mid-December, so put the ambitious version on paper before the 13th and expect to refine it in the new year.

The Sagittarius New Moon and the outer planets turn direct

The New Moon at 16 degrees 57 minutes of Sagittarius comes on December 8 at 7:52 pm Eastern. It is the year's last new moon and the natural place to set an intention for 2027 that is about meaning rather than metrics. Two days later Saturn turns direct in Aries, and Neptune follows on December 12. Both have been retrograde since the summer. Their forward turn, in the sign of the self, is a collective green light on the structures and dreams that were stalled since July.

How to work with it

Do book the trip, apply for the course, publish the piece and say what you believe now. Do use November 30 and December 15 as your two release dates and treat the Beaver Moon's surprise as information rather than emergency. Do write the big plan down before Jupiter turns retrograde on December 13.

Do not over-promise in the first week under the Uranus opposition, do not let Mars in Virgo turn Thanksgiving into an audit of other people and do not make the biggest financial decision of the season before Venus clears its shadow on December 15.
