Sade Sati 2026 and 2027: Which Moon Signs Are Affected and When It Ends

Last verified October 2026

Sade Sati in 2026 runs for Aquarius, Pisces and Aries Moon signs. Saturn enters sidereal Aries on June 3, 2027, which starts it for Taurus and moves every phase on. Exact dates computed with the Lahiri ayanamsa, a table of every phase and how to check your own Moon sign.

Sade Sati 2026 and 2027: Which Moon Signs Are Affected and When It Ends

In 2026, Sade Sati is running for three Moon signs: Aries (rising phase), Pisces (peak phase) and Aquarius (setting phase). On June 3, 2027 (Indian time) Saturn enters sidereal Aries. That starts Sade Sati for Taurus Moon signs and ends the active phase for Aquarius, though Saturn slips back into Pisces from October 20, 2027 to February 23, 2028, so Aquarius Moon signs finish their Sade Sati on February 23, 2028. Every date in this guide is computed from the ephemeris with the Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsa, the same method our free Kundali uses. Panchangs that use a slightly different ayanamsa or time zone can differ by a day.

What is Sade Sati?

Sade Sati (Hindi for "seven and a half") is the period of about seven and a half years when Saturn, Shani, transits the three signs around your natal Moon: the twelfth sign from the Moon, the Moon's own sign and the second sign from the Moon. Saturn spends roughly two and a half years in each sign, so three signs make about seven and a half years. Saturn takes about 29.5 years to circle the zodiac, so most people meet Sade Sati two or three times in a lifetime.

It is divided into three phases, often called dhaiya (two and a half years each):

  • Rising phase: Saturn in the twelfth sign from your Moon. Traditionally linked to expenses, sleep, distance and letting go.
  • Peak phase: Saturn over your Moon sign itself. The most personal phase, linked to the mind, emotional load and responsibility.
  • Setting phase: Saturn in the second sign from your Moon. Traditionally linked to money, family and speech. It is also the time to consolidate the lessons of the previous five years.

Sade Sati is counted from your sidereal Moon sign, not your Sun sign

This is the single most common mix-up. Sade Sati uses your Moon sign (rashi) in the sidereal zodiac of Vedic astrology, not the Sun sign you read in Western horoscopes. The two zodiacs are now about 24 degrees apart (the Lahiri ayanamsa is 24 degrees 14 minutes in October 2026), so your Vedic Moon sign is often the sign before your Western one.

The same gap explains why Saturn's dates look different in Western and Vedic sources. In the tropical zodiac Saturn entered Aries on February 14, 2026. In the sidereal zodiac it is still in Pisces and does not reach Aries until June 3, 2027. Both are correct for their own system. For Sade Sati, only the sidereal date counts. If you are not sure which system you have been using, read Vedic vs Western astrology.

Note the time zone. Saturn's entry into Aries falls late on June 2 in UTC, the UK and the Americas but after midnight on June 3 in India and continental Europe. The 2027 entry is followed by a retrograde: Saturn turns retrograde on August 9, 2027 at 3 degrees 38 minutes of sidereal Aries, falls back into Pisces on October 20 and only settles in Aries on February 23, 2028. That retrograde dip is why some Sade Sati dates come in two parts.

Which Moon signs have Sade Sati in 2026?

From March 29, 2025 until June 3, 2027, Saturn is in sidereal Pisces. That puts three Moon signs in Sade Sati for all of 2026:

  • Aries Moon (Mesha rashi): rising phase. Saturn is in your twelfth sign. Your Sade Sati began on March 29, 2025.
  • Pisces Moon (Meena rashi): peak phase. Saturn is on your Moon sign. Your Sade Sati began on April 29, 2022.
  • Aquarius Moon (Kumbha rashi): setting phase. Saturn is in your second sign. Your Sade Sati began on January 24, 2020 and is in its final stretch.

Capricorn Moon (Makara rashi) finished its Sade Sati on March 29, 2025.

Which signs will have Sade Sati in 2027?

2027 is a changeover year, so four Moon signs are touched:

All dates are in Indian Standard Time and come from the sidereal Saturn ingresses above. A few phases have short interruptions when Saturn retrogrades across a sign line. Pisces Moon signs, for example, get a pause from August 8 to October 5, 2029, when Saturn briefly enters Taurus. Traditional reckoning, like our Kundali, treats those interruptions as part of one Sade Sati rather than two.

What about Dhaiya, Kantaka and Ashtama Shani?

Two other Saturn transits from the Moon are watched almost as closely. Saturn in the fourth sign from the Moon is called Kantaka Shani (also Ardhashtama), and Saturn in the eighth sign from the Moon is called Ashtama Shani. Each lasts about two and a half years, which is why both are known as a Shani Dhaiya.

  • Now, with Saturn in sidereal Pisces: Sagittarius Moon signs have Kantaka Shani and Leo Moon signs have Ashtama Shani.
  • From June 3, 2027, with Saturn in sidereal Aries: Capricorn Moon signs have Kantaka Shani and Virgo Moon signs have Ashtama Shani. During the dip from October 20, 2027 to February 23, 2028 it swings back to Sagittarius and Leo.

The free Kundali flags both alongside your Sade Sati status.

How do I know if I am in Sade Sati?

You need your Moon sign in the sidereal zodiac, which depends on your date, time and place of birth. The Moon changes sign roughly every two and a half days, so the date alone is usually enough, but not always. The fastest way is to cast your free Kundali. It calculates your sidereal Moon sign and tells you whether Sade Sati is active now, which phase you are in and when it ends. If it is not active, it shows when your next one begins. It also shows whether Kantaka or Ashtama Shani is running.

If you do not know your birth time, an approximate time still gives the right Moon sign on most days. The Lagna and the dashas will not be reliable without the real time, though. Astrologers read Sade Sati alongside both.

Does Sade Sati mean seven and a half years of bad luck?

No. This is the myth that does the most harm. In the classical view Saturn is a teacher of discipline, patience and consequence. Sade Sati is a period when life asks for more maturity: more responsibility, fewer shortcuts, honest work and the end of things that were already unsustainable. Many people look back on their Sade Sati as the years they built something lasting.

How it feels depends on far more than the Moon sign. Traditional astrologers look at:

  • Saturn's strength in your own chart. Saturn exalted in Libra, or in its own signs Capricorn and Aquarius, is traditionally said to give a milder Sade Sati.
  • Your running dasha. A supportive Mahadasha and Antardasha shape the period more than the transit alone.
  • Ashtakavarga bindus. The number of points Saturn's sign carries in your Sarvashtakavarga is a classical guide to how heavy a transit feels. Our Kundali computes Ashtakavarga for every sign.
  • The Moon's own condition. A strong, well-placed Moon handles the pressure better.

Two people with the same Moon sign can have very different Sade Satis. Anyone who predicts a specific disaster from the Moon sign alone is going beyond what the tradition itself claims.

Common Sade Sati myths

"It is based on my zodiac sign." Only on your sidereal Moon sign. Your Western Sun sign has nothing to do with it.

"Everyone with Sade Sati suffers equally." No. Saturn's dignity, your dasha and your Ashtakavarga all change the picture, as above.

"I cannot marry, buy a house or change jobs during Sade Sati." There is no classical rule that bans major life events during Sade Sati. Many astrologers advise patience and thorough planning, which is good advice in any year.

"The peak phase is always the worst." Not necessarily. For some charts the rising or setting phase is harder, depending on which houses those signs rule from the Lagna.

"A gemstone will cancel it." Traditional astrologers prescribe blue sapphire (neelam) with great caution and only after studying the whole chart. Buying one because of a blog post, this one included, is not what the tradition recommends.

Traditional Sade Sati remedies

The practices below are traditional and devotional. They are offered as what people in the Jyotish tradition commonly do, not as guarantees of any outcome.

  • Saturday observance. Saturday (Shanivar) is Saturn's day. Many people visit a Shani or Hanuman temple, recite the Hanuman Chalisa or chant a Shani mantra such as "Om Sham Shanaishcharaya Namah".
  • Charity. Giving sesame (til), black urad dal, mustard oil, black cloth or footwear on Saturdays, especially to people who do hard physical work.
  • Service. Helping the elderly, workers and people with disabilities is the remedy most often linked to Saturn, the significator of labour and age.
  • Discipline. Keeping promises, paying debts, being punctual and working steadily. In Saturn's own logic, this is the most direct remedy of all.

None of this replaces medical, financial or legal advice when life gets hard. Saturn's lesson is to deal with real problems directly, and that includes asking the right professionals.
