Full Moon Calendar 2027: Every Full and New Moon, With Dates, Times, Signs and Supermoons

2027 has twelve full moons and thirteen new moons. The only full-moon supermoon is the Wolf Moon on January 22, the closest full moon of the year at 357,635 kilometres. There is no monthly Blue Moon, but the May 20 Flower Moon is a Blue Moon by the older seasonal rule, and August holds two new moons, so August 31 is a Black Moon. Three of the full moons are penumbral lunar eclipses (February 20, July 18 and August 17) and two of the new moons are solar eclipses: an annular eclipse on February 6 and the long total eclipse of August 2. Every time below is computed from the ephemeris and converted to Eastern, Pacific and UK clocks, with daylight saving applied for each date. North America is on daylight time from March 14 to November 7, 2027 and the UK is on British Summer Time from March 28 to October 31.

The full moon names are the traditional North American ones that almanacs and most search results use. The Harvest Moon is always the full moon nearest the September equinox, which in 2027 falls on September 23, so the September 15 full moon takes the name and the October 15 full moon becomes the Hunter's Moon.

Full moon 2027 dates in the USA

Two full moons fall on a different calendar date in North America than in the UK and in UTC. The Strawberry Moon is on the evening of June 18 everywhere in the contiguous US, and the Beaver Moon is on the evening of November 13. Every other 2027 full moon lands on the same date in Eastern, Central, Mountain and Pacific time as in the table. If you plan to watch, the best night is the night of the date shown in your own zone, and a full moon looks full to the eye for about a night either side.

The new moons walk backward through the signs by about a degree or two a month, from 17 degrees of Capricorn in January to 6 degrees of Capricorn in December. That is why Capricorn hosts two new moons in 2027 and every other sign hosts one.

Which 2027 full moons are supermoons?

A supermoon is a full moon that falls near perigee, the Moon's closest point to Earth in its monthly orbit. Two definitions are in common use: a strict cut of 360,000 kilometres, and the looser rule of a full moon within 90 percent of the year's closest approach, which for 2027 works out to 362,205 kilometres. In 2027 both rules give the same answer.

  1. January 22, Wolf Moon: 357,635 km. The only full-moon supermoon of 2027 and the closest full moon of the year. It falls 14.5 hours after the closest perigee of 2027, at 357,273 km. It follows the December 2026 Cold Moon, 356,729 km away, so the turn of the year brings two big full moons in a row.
  2. February 20, Snow Moon: 363,296 km. Close, and it may appear on looser lists, but it misses both rules. It is also a penumbral lunar eclipse.
  3. December 13, Cold Moon: 368,131 km. The third closest full moon of 2027, and not a supermoon by either rule.

The farthest full moon of the year, sometimes called a micromoon, is the Buck Moon on July 18 at 405,968 km, which is also a penumbral lunar eclipse. Three new moons also fall near perigee: August 2 (357,375 km), July 4 (358,793 km) and August 31 (360,253 km). A new moon cannot be seen, but the August 2 one matters, because a close Moon covers more of the Sun and makes that day's total eclipse unusually long.

Is there a Blue Moon in 2027?

Not by the popular rule. No calendar month in 2027 holds two full moons, in UTC or in any US time zone, so there is no monthly Blue Moon. The next one falls on December 31, 2028.

By the older seasonal rule, the third full moon in an astronomical season that holds four, there is one. Spring 2027 runs from the March equinox on March 20 to the June solstice on June 21 and holds four full moons: March 22, April 20, May 20 and June 19. The third, the May 20 Flower Moon at 29 degrees 14 minutes of Scorpio, is the seasonal Blue Moon of 2027. Every other season of the year holds three.

The August 2027 Black Moon

August 2027 has two new moons, on August 2 and August 31, in every time zone used on this page. The second new moon in a calendar month is popularly called a Black Moon, so August 31 at 8 degrees 07 minutes of Virgo is the Black Moon of 2027. It arrives a month after the total eclipse and eight days after the Sun enters Virgo, a quieter second start after a dramatic first one.

Two quirks stand out. Scorpio hosts two full moons, one at 0 degrees and one at 29 degrees, so the whole sign is lit from both ends. Cancer hosts none: the Cold Moon of December 24, 2026 (December 23 in North America) falls in Cancer, and the next full moon in Cancer is not until January 12, 2028.

What each 2027 full moon brings

A full moon is the Sun and Moon opposite each other, so each one brings something to a head across two signs.

January 22, Wolf Moon in Leo. The year's biggest full moon, across the Leo and Aquarius axis that the eclipses will work all year. Heart against head, the self against the group. Jupiter is retrograde in Leo at the time, so the pride question is an inward one.

February 20, Snow Moon in Virgo. A penumbral eclipse that falls in the middle of the first Mercury retrograde. Health, work and the small habits that hold a life together get an honest look.

March 22, Worm Moon in Libra. Two days after the equinox and with Mars retrograde in Leo, a full moon about fairness in a relationship. Balance what you give and what you get.

April 20, Pink Moon in Scorpio. The first of the two Scorpio full moons, at the very start of the sign, a week after Jupiter turns direct. Intimacy and shared money come up for honest review.

May 20, Flower Moon in Scorpio, the seasonal Blue Moon. The second Scorpio full moon, at the last degree of the sign. Whatever the April moon raised gets its ending here.

June 19, Strawberry Moon in Sagittarius. A wide-horizon full moon two days before the solstice, during the second Mercury retrograde. Plans for travel and study need a second read.

July 18, Buck Moon in Capricorn. The farthest full moon of the year and the faintest eclipse, a 25-minute brush with Earth's outer shadow. Career and responsibility, handled quietly.

August 17, Sturgeon Moon in Aquarius. The lunar eclipse that closes the August 2 eclipse fortnight. Friends, networks and the future you want with other people.

September 15, Harvest Moon in Pisces. A soft, intuitive full moon a week before the equinox. Rest, forgive and gather what the summer grew.

October 15, Hunter's Moon in Aries. A full moon about independence, with Saturn retrograde in Aries and the third Mercury retrograde a week old. Act for yourself, but check your facts first.

November 14, Beaver Moon in Taurus. The evening of November 13 in North America. Money, comfort and what you will not compromise on.

December 13, Cold Moon in Gemini. The last full moon of 2027, across the Gemini and Sagittarius axis. Talk it through before the holidays.

The five eclipses of 2027

July 18Penumbral lunar eclipse, very slightFull Moon25 degrees 49 minutes Capricorn

The August 2 total eclipse crosses southern Spain, North Africa, Egypt and Arabia, with about 6 minutes 25 seconds of totality at Luxor in Egypt, and it is the longest total solar eclipse of any year from 2010 to 2100. All three lunar eclipses are penumbral, so the Moon only dims slightly. Paths, local times and what each eclipse means by sign are in the full guide to eclipses 2027.

How to read a full moon or new moon for yourself

A new moon is the Sun and Moon together at the same degree. It opens a chapter in the house of your chart that holds that degree. A full moon is the Sun and Moon opposite each other, and it brings something to a head across the two houses on that axis. To use this calendar, find the sign and degree in the table, then find the house that holds it in your birth chart. The free birth chart reading shows the house for each of your placements, and your monthly horoscope reads each lunation for your sign as it arrives.

Two other calendars sit alongside this one. Four of 2027's lunations fall inside a Mercury retrograde (the February 20 full moon, the June 19 full moon, the July 4 new moon and the October 15 full moon), and the dates are in Mercury retrograde 2027. The Wolf Moon, the Snow Moon and the Worm Moon all fall while Jupiter is retrograde in Leo, covered in Jupiter retrograde 2026 to 2027, the last chapter of Jupiter in Leo. Last year's retrograde dates are in Mercury retrograde 2026. For the year before, see the 2026 full moon calendar, and for every retrograde, eclipse and ingress of the year, the 2027 astrology calendar. The run-up to January starts with the December 2026 astrology calendar, and every current lunation guide is listed under transits.

Is there a supermoon in 2027?

One full-moon supermoon: the Wolf Moon on January 22, 2027, 357,635 kilometres from Earth and 14.5 hours after the year's closest perigee. It qualifies under both the 360,000 kilometre rule and the 90 percent of closest approach rule. No other 2027 full moon qualifies under either rule.

Is there a Blue Moon in 2027?

There is no monthly Blue Moon in 2027, because no calendar month has two full moons. The May 20 Flower Moon is a Blue Moon by the older seasonal rule, as the third of four full moons in spring 2027. The next monthly Blue Moon is December 31, 2028.
