New Moon Calendar 2027: Every New Moon With Dates, Times, Signs and Intentions

2027 has thirteen new moons: January 7, February 6, March 8, April 6, May 6, June 4, July 4, August 2, August 31, September 30, October 29, November 28 and December 27. Two of them are solar eclipses: the annular eclipse in Aquarius on February 6 and the total eclipse in Leo on August 2. August 31 is a Black Moon, the second new moon in one calendar month. Capricorn is the only sign to host two new moons, in January and again in December. Every time below is computed from the ephemeris and converted to Eastern, Pacific, UK and India time, with daylight saving applied for each date. North America is on daylight time from March 14 to November 7, 2027 and the UK is on British Summer Time from March 28 to October 31.

New moon 2027 dates in the USA and India

Seven of the thirteen new moons land on a different calendar date somewhere. In North America three fall on the evening before the UTC date: July 3, September 29 and November 27, in every contiguous US time zone. In India four fall on the morning after: January 8, April 7, June 5 and December 28. In the UK the April new moon also falls just after midnight, on April 7. If you time a ritual or an intention to the day, use the date in your own zone. A new moon cannot be seen, so the evening of the date shown is as good as any.

Which 2027 new moons are solar eclipses?

Two. February 6 at 17 degrees 38 minutes of Aquarius is an annular eclipse, with a ring of sunlight visible from Uruguay, the South Atlantic and West Africa at sunset. It falls near the North Node and is read as an opening. August 2 at 9 degrees 55 minutes of Leo is the total solar eclipse that crosses southern Spain, North Africa and Arabia, with up to 6 minutes 23 seconds of totality near Luxor by NASA's figures. Is there a super new moon in 2027?

A supermoon is a new or full moon near perigee, the Moon's closest point in its monthly orbit. Using the same two rules as the full moon calendar 2027, a strict cut of 360,000 kilometres or the looser rule of within 90 percent of the year's closest approach (362,205 kilometres in 2027):

1. August 2, 357,375 km. The closest new moon of the year, which is why the total eclipse that day is so long.
2. July 4, 358,793 km. A super new moon by both rules.
3. August 31, 360,253 km. A super new moon by the 90 percent rule only.

The farthest new moon of the year is January 7, at 406,514 kilometres, about half a day after apogee.

The August 2027 Black Moon

August 2027 holds two new moons, August 2 and August 31, in UTC and in every US and UK time zone. The second new moon in a calendar month is popularly called a Black Moon, so August 31 at 8 degrees 7 minutes of Virgo is the Black Moon of 2027. It is a remarkable one: the Sun meets Jupiter at 7 degrees 42 minutes of Virgo the same morning, so this new moon sits 0.3 degrees from Jupiter. What is a new moon in astrology?

In astronomy a new moon is the moment the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun, so the side facing us is unlit and the Moon is invisible for a night or two. In astrology it is the conjunction of the Sun and Moon: your conscious will and your emotional needs pointing the same way, at the same degree. That is why tradition treats it as a beginning, the seed of a cycle that peaks at the full moon about two weeks later and fades through the waning half of the month.

The sign sets the subject and the house in your chart sets the place. A new moon in Taurus is about money and the body for everyone, but for one person it lands in the career house and for another in the house of friendships. Most new moons are quiet. The two that are eclipses, February 6 and August 2, are the loud ones. Astrologers read them over months rather than days.

What each 2027 new moon brings, with an intention

A new moon is the Sun and Moon together at one degree, the start of a lunar cycle. Astrological tradition treats it as the time to set an intention for the area of life ruled by its sign. Here is each one, with what else is happening in the sky that day.

February 6, Aquarius, annular eclipse: the new direction. A North Node eclipse and the start of the Chinese New Year, three days before Mercury turns retrograde. Something about your future, your friends or your place in a group opens up. Hold it loosely for a few weeks before you commit. Intention: "I am open to a future I have not planned yet."

March 8, Pisces: rest and faith. Mercury has just turned direct, but Mars and Jupiter are still retrograde. A soft new moon for sleep, art, prayer and forgiving yourself. Intention: "I let go of the need to control how this turns out."

April 6, Aries: the year's strongest fresh start. The new moon sits on Saturn, 0.6 degrees away, and in exact trine to Jupiter, three days after Saturn and Jupiter form their own exact trine and five days after Mars turns direct. Courage with a plan behind it. If you have been waiting since January to begin something, begin it here. Intention: "I start this with discipline, and I will still be doing it in a year."

May 6, Taurus: build something real. The only new moon of 2027 with no planet retrograde at all. Money, the body, comfort and the slow work of making things grow. Intention: "I invest my time and money in what I actually value."

June 4, Gemini: say it clearly. Mercury turns retrograde six days later, so start conversations now and expect to revisit them in late June. Intention: "I will ask the question I have been avoiding."

July 4, Cancer: home and belonging. A super new moon, and Mercury turns direct about 17 hours later. Family, home and emotional security get a reset. Intention: "I make my home a place that restores me."

August 2, Leo, total solar eclipse: release. A South Node eclipse, traditionally a time to end rather than begin. Let go of an old role or an outdated way of seeking approval. Intention: "I release the version of me that needed applause to feel worthy."

August 31, Virgo, Black Moon: the best launch day of the second half. The new moon sits on Jupiter, which entered Virgo on July 26. Work, health, skills and service get a generous push. Intention: "I commit to the daily habit that will change my year."

September 30, Libra: honest partnership. The new moon opposes Neptune and trines Pluto, a week before Mercury turns retrograde again. See your relationships as they are, not as you hope they are. Intention: "I ask for what is fair, and I give it too."

October 29, Scorpio: depth and renewal. The new moon squares Pluto, the day after Mercury turns direct. Shared money, intimacy and what you are ready to transform. It is also the new moon of Diwali. Intention: "I let something die so something truer can grow."

November 28, Sagittarius: widen the horizon. Within half a degree of a sextile to Pluto, trine Neptune and opposite Uranus. Travel, study and belief, with room for surprises. Intention: "I say yes to one experience that expands me."

December 27, Capricorn: the year-end commitment. Saturn turned direct three days earlier, on December 24. The second Capricorn new moon of the year closes the loop the January one opened. Intention: "Next year I will finish what I started, and I will measure it by..."

How to set a new moon intention

The tradition is simple and costs nothing:

1. Pick the right window. A common practice is to write intentions in the first day or two after the exact new moon, using the time in their own zone from the table.
2. Match the sign. An intention about money fits the Taurus new moon better than the Gemini one. Use the themes above.

The 2027 new moons in other calendars
