Venus Sign: What Your Venus Says About Love, Money and Style

Last verified October 2026

Your Venus sign describes how you love, what you value and what you find beautiful. All 12 Venus signs, how to find yours, Venus by house, what it means to be born with Venus retrograde and how Venus sign compatibility actually works.

Venus Sign: What Your Venus Says About Love, Money and Style

Your Venus sign is the zodiac sign Venus was in when you were born. It describes how you give and receive love, what you find beautiful and how you relate to money and pleasure. Your Sun sign says who you are. Your Venus sign says what you want and how you show care, which is why two people with the same Sun sign can love in completely different ways.

This guide covers how to find your Venus sign, all twelve Venus signs, Venus in each house, what it means to be born with Venus retrograde and how Venus sign compatibility works between two charts.

What is a Venus sign?

Venus is one of the five personal planets, along with the Sun, Moon, Mercury and Mars (what each planet means). It rules love, attraction, beauty, harmony and what you value, including money. In your chart, the sign Venus occupies describes the style of all of those: the way you flirt, the gestures that make you feel chosen, the colours and textures you reach for and what you will happily spend on.

Venus also rules two signs, Taurus and Libra. Taurus is its earthy side, pleasure through the senses, comfort and loyalty. Libra is its airy side, partnership, fairness and grace.

How do I find my Venus sign?

The quickest way is a free birth chart reading: enter your birth date and place and it shows your Venus sign along with every other placement. Your birth date is usually enough. Venus moves at most about 1.26 degrees a day, so it only matters when Venus changed sign on the day you were born. A birth time adds the house your Venus sits in, which is where the most personal detail lives.

Venus can never be far from your Sun. Seen from Earth, it never strays more than about 47 degrees from the Sun, so your Venus sign is always your Sun sign or one of the two signs on either side. We checked this against 102,272 charts, one every six hours from 1940 to 2009:

Where your Venus sitsShare of charts
In the same sign as your Sun23.5%
One sign before or after your Sun sign58.5%
Two signs before or after your Sun sign18.0%

So most people (76.5%) have Venus in a different sign from their Sun. Here are the five possible Venus signs for each Sun sign:

Venus in each sign

Venus in Aries

You love like a spark: fast, honest and openly. You enjoy the pursuit and you show care through action rather than speeches. You need a partner who can keep pace and who will not play games, and you are at your best when love feels like an adventure you share. Venus is traditionally in detriment in Aries, which only means its gentle side has to learn patience.

Venus in Taurus

Venus is at home here. You love slowly, physically and loyally, through touch, good food and showing up every single time. Security matters to you emotionally and financially. You would rather own one beautiful thing that lasts than ten that do not. Once you commit, you stay. More in the Taurus guide.

Venus in Gemini

You fall for minds first. Conversation, wit and a steady stream of messages are your love language. Boredom is the real deal-breaker. You need variety and a partner who stays genuinely interesting. With money and style, you like to try things, so your taste keeps evolving. More in the Gemini guide.

Venus in Cancer

You love by caring: feeding, remembering, protecting and building a nest for two. You need emotional safety before you open up, and once you do, your loyalty runs deep. Home is where your money and your heart both go. Reassurance is the gift that means most to you. More in the Cancer guide.

Venus in Leo

You love out loud. Grand gestures, open pride in a partner and generous treats are your style. You want the same warmth back. Appreciation is not vanity for you, it is how you know you are loved. Your style is unmistakable and a little theatrical. More in the Leo guide.

Venus in Virgo

You show love through details: fixing, organising and quietly improving a partner's life. You value effort over show, and you notice everything. Traditionally Venus is in its fall in Virgo, which in practice means you can be harder on yourself in love than anyone else would be. Let people care for you back. More in the Virgo guide.

Venus in Libra

Venus is at home in Libra too. You love romance, attention and partnership itself. You have a gift for making someone feel chosen. Fairness matters, and so does beauty in everyday life. The growth edge is saying what you want instead of keeping the peace. More in the Libra guide.

Venus in Scorpio

You love all or nothing. Surface-level connection rarely satisfies you, and once trust is earned you are fiercely loyal. You need honesty and a partner who does not flinch from depth. Traditionally Venus is in detriment in Scorpio, which makes love here intense rather than easy: a bond that transforms both people.

Venus in Sagittarius

You love through shared adventures, honesty and laughter. You need plenty of room inside a relationship. Travel, learning and big plans are where your money and your romance both like to go. You fall for people who make life feel bigger. More in the Sagittarius guide.

Venus in Capricorn

You take love seriously. You show it through commitment, reliability and building something real over years. You are drawn to people with ambition and integrity. You may warm up slowly, and the love you build tends to last. Classic style and long-term investments suit you. More in the Capricorn guide.

Venus in Aquarius

You want a best friend and a lover in one person. Freedom inside closeness matters, and the conventional script rarely fits you. You are drawn to originality and shared causes, and your taste runs ahead of the trend. More in the Aquarius guide.

Venus in Pisces

Traditionally Venus is exalted in Pisces, its most generous placement. You love with tenderness, devotion and imagination. You feel a partner's moods almost before they do. The gift is compassion. The lesson is to see people as they are, not only as you hope they are. More in the Pisces guide.

Where Venus is strongest and weakest

Traditional astrology ranks how comfortable each planet is in each sign. For Venus:

ConditionSignsWhat it means in practice
Domicile (home)Taurus, LibraVenus expresses itself naturally and easily
ExaltationPiscesVenus at its most idealistic and generous
DetrimentAries, ScorpioLove is more intense or more urgent than gentle
FallVirgoLove shows up as service, with a tendency to self-criticism

None of these is good or bad. A Venus in detriment or fall simply works differently from the Venus of the textbooks, and many people with these placements love very well.

Venus by house

With a birth time, your reading also shows which house Venus occupies. The sign is how you love. The house is where in life love, pleasure and money tend to show up for you (the 12 houses explained).

Venus in theLove and pleasure show up through
1st houseYour appearance and charm, people warm to you quickly
2nd houseMoney, possessions and the comforts you build
3rd houseConversation, writing and your local world
4th houseHome, family and a beautiful private life
5th houseRomance, dating, creativity and play
6th houseDaily routines, work and acts of care

9th houseTravel, study and partners from other places
10th houseCareer, reputation and work involving beauty or people

Venus sits in the 7th house, the house of partnership, in 8.3% of charts in our 102,272-chart sample, roughly one in twelve. Read more in our guide to the 7th house.

What does it mean to be born with Venus retrograde?

Venus turns retrograde about once every nineteen months for roughly six weeks (Venus retrograde 2026 has the current dates). In our 102,272-chart sample, 7.3% of charts have Venus retrograde, about one in fourteen. Venus is retrograde right now: it stationed on October 3, 2026 at 8 degrees of Scorpio and turns direct on November 13 (Eastern time) at 22 degrees of Libra, so anyone born in that window has natal Venus retrograde.

A retrograde Venus at birth is not a problem placement. Astrologers usually read it as love and values that develop inward first. You may take longer to know what you want, question conventional ideas of romance or revisit old relationships and old tastes before settling on your own. Many people with Venus retrograde end up with an unusually clear and personal sense of what they value.

How does Venus sign compatibility work?

Venus sign compatibility compares how two people love, rather than who they are. Astrologers look at three things:

  1. Venus to Mars. Your Venus with their Mars, and your Mars with their Venus, describe attraction. Easy elements (same element, or fire with air and earth with water) usually mean the pull runs both ways.
  2. Venus to Venus. Two Venus signs in the same or a complementary element tend to share taste, from what a good date looks like to how money should be spent.
  3. Venus to the Sun and Moon. Your Venus touching their Sun reads as fondness. Your Venus touching their Moon reads as tenderness and feeling safe together.

Our compatibility tool builds all of this into its score. In its engine, a Venus-Mars aspect between two charts carries a weight of 3.0, as heavy as a Sun-Moon contact. Venus touching the other person's Sun or Moon carries 2.4. The element of each person's Venus is also one of three inputs to the elemental part of the score, alongside the Sun and Moon. Venus and Mars together drive the Spark axis. For a step-by-step guide to reading these contacts yourself, see how to read a synastry chart.

This is also why Sun-sign rankings miss so much. In our study of 60,000 generated chart pairs, the two Sun signs explained only 24.3% of the full-chart score (the full study). Venus is a large part of the other three quarters. See how your Sun signs rank on average in the best and worst match for every sign.

Frequently asked questions

How can I know my Venus sign?

Enter your birth date and place into a free birth chart calculator such as the Natal Junction reading. Your birth date is usually enough, because Venus moves at most about 1.26 degrees a day, so a birth time only matters if Venus changed sign that day. A birth time also shows which house your Venus is in.

Is my Venus sign the same as my Sun sign?

Sometimes, but usually not. Venus never strays more than about 47 degrees from the Sun, so your Venus sign is your Sun sign or one of the two signs on either side. Across 102,272 charts from 1940 to 2009, Venus shared the Sun's sign in 23.5% of charts, sat one sign away in 58.5% and two signs away in 18.0%.

What does my Venus sign say about love?

Your Venus sign describes your love language: how you show affection, what makes you feel chosen and what you find attractive. Venus in Taurus loves through touch and steady presence, Venus in Gemini through conversation and Venus in Capricorn through commitment and effort. Your Sun sign is who you are, while Venus is how you love.

What does it mean if Venus was retrograde when I was born?

About 7.3% of charts have Venus retrograde, roughly one in fourteen. It is not a bad placement. Astrologers read it as love and values that develop inward first, so you may take longer to know what you want or rethink conventional romance before settling on your own clear sense of what you value.

How does Venus sign compatibility work?

Astrologers compare each person's Venus with the other's Mars for attraction, the two Venus signs for shared taste and Venus with the other's Sun and Moon for fondness and tenderness. In the Natal Junction engine, a Venus-Mars aspect between two charts carries a weight of 3.0, as heavy as a Sun-Moon contact.
