Chiron in Astrology: Find Your Chiron Sign and What It Means
Last verified October 2026
Chiron marks your core wound and how you learn to heal it. Find your Chiron sign by birth date, read it by sign and house and see when your Chiron return falls.

In astrology, Chiron marks your deepest sore spot and the wisdom you build by learning to live with it. Its sign describes the wound and its house shows where in life you feel it most. The help you end up giving other people usually comes from the same place. Chiron moves slowly, staying anywhere from about 2 to 9 years in a sign, so your birth date alone settles your Chiron sign in most cases. Find it in the table below. Chiron is not yet shown in the Natal Junction reading, so use the free birth chart reading for your rising sign and houses, then look Chiron up here.
What is Chiron in astrology?
Chiron is a real object, not a calculated point. It is an icy body roughly 170 km across, catalogued as 2060 Chiron, that was discovered on October 18, 1977 by Charles Kowal at Palomar Observatory. It belongs to a class of objects called centaurs, which orbit among the giant planets. Chiron's orbit is unusually stretched. At its closest it comes within 8.49 astronomical units of the Sun, inside the orbit of Saturn. At its farthest it reaches 18.88, out near Uranus. One trip around the Sun takes about 50.6 years.
The name comes from Greek myth. Chiron was the wise centaur who taught healing, music and archery to heroes such as Asclepius and Achilles. Struck by one of Heracles's poisoned arrows, he could not heal his own wound and could not die, because he was immortal. In the account by Apollodorus, Chiron could only die once Prometheus offered to take on his immortality.
Astrologers took that story as the planet's meaning: the wounded healer. Chiron in your chart points to a hurt that does not fully go away: a place where you feel clumsy, exposed or not enough. It also points to the skill and compassion you develop because of it. The interpretation was built up in the 1980s, notably in Melanie Reinhart's book Chiron and the Healing Journey (1989). It is younger than the meanings of the traditional planets, so you will find more variation between astrologers. For how Chiron fits next to the planets, see the planets in your birth chart.
How do I find my Chiron sign?
- Find your birth date in the table below. The row it falls in gives your Chiron sign.
- If you were born on or within a day of a change date, the exact time matters. Dates are in UTC, so a late-evening birth in the Americas may already be the next day in UTC.
- For the house, get your rising sign from the free birth chart reading. Natal Junction uses whole-sign houses, so your rising sign is the 1st house, the next sign is the 2nd and so on. Count from your rising sign to your Chiron sign. Example: rising sign Gemini, Chiron in Aries. Gemini is 1, Cancer 2, Leo 3, Virgo 4, Libra 5, Scorpio 6, Sagittarius 7, Capricorn 8, Aquarius 9, Pisces 10, Aries 11. Chiron is in your 11th house.
The free reading does not list Chiron yet, so do not look for it there. The table is computed from NASA JPL's Horizons ephemeris for Chiron and cross-checked against the Swiss Ephemeris. The two agree to within a few minutes on every date.

Why does Chiron spend 2 years in some signs and 9 in others?
Because its orbit is so stretched. Near its closest point to the Sun, Chiron moves fast. Its last closest approach came in 1996, which is why it raced through Leo, Virgo and Libra in about two years each between 1991 and 1997. Far from the Sun it crawls, so it spends close to nine years in Pisces and in Aries. Measured from the first day it enters a sign to the day it leaves for good, the shortest stays in the table are Virgo and Libra at about 2 years each. The longest are Pisces (2010 to 2019) and Aries (2018 to 2027) at about 9 years each.
That makes Chiron partly generational. Everyone born from early 1969 to the spring of 1976 shares Chiron in Aries, while people born in the mid-1990s changed Chiron sign every two years. The house and the aspects to your personal planets are what make your Chiron your own.
Where is Chiron now?
Chiron has been in Aries since February 2019. It first touched Taurus on June 19, 2026 and turned back into Aries on September 18. It enters Taurus for good in April 2027. On October 15, 2026 it stands at 28 degrees 51 minutes of Aries.

Chiron then stays in Taurus until 2033 and 2034, when it moves into Gemini.
What does Chiron mean in each sign?
- Chiron in Aries: the wound is about the right to exist and to take up space. You may doubt your courage or feel you have to fight to be noticed. The healing comes from acting before you feel ready and from helping others claim their own nerve.
- Chiron in Taurus: the sore spot is security, the body and self-worth. Money or physical comfort can feel never quite enough. You heal by building steadiness slowly and teach others that worth is not the same as wealth.
- Chiron in Gemini: the wound sits in words and learning. You may have felt unheard, misunderstood or "not clever". It often produces gifted teachers, writers and listeners who explain things kindly because they remember not understanding.
- Chiron in Cancer: the hurt is about home, family and being cared for. Belonging can feel conditional. The gift is the ability to make other people feel at home, once you learn to do it for yourself.
- Chiron in Leo: the wound is about being seen and loved for who you are. You may hold back your creativity or perform for approval. Healing comes through play and self-expression that does not wait for applause.
- Chiron in Virgo: the sore spot is never being good enough, often felt through work or health. Perfectionism is the symptom. The gift is practical healing: the person who knows exactly what helps because they had to work it out.
- Chiron in Libra: the wound lives in relationships and fairness. You may give too much to keep the peace or feel incomplete alone. You heal by learning balanced partnership and often become the person others bring their relationship problems to.
- Chiron in Scorpio: the hurt involves trust, control, intimacy or loss. Betrayal and power are the themes. The gift is the ability to stay calm with other people's darkest material, as a counsellor, investigator or friend.
- Chiron in Sagittarius: the wound is about meaning and belief. Faith, education or a sense of purpose may have been shaken early. The gift is a hard-won philosophy that helps others find their own.
- Chiron in Capricorn: the sore spot is authority, achievement and responsibility. You may feel you have to earn your place or carry weight too young. Healing comes from defining success on your own terms and mentoring others to do the same.
- Chiron in Aquarius: the wound is about not fitting in. You may feel like the outsider in groups. The gift is a talent for including others and for changing systems that leave people out.
- Chiron in Pisces: the hurt is diffuse: a sense of being lost, too porous or not protected from the world's pain. The gift is deep compassion and often a healing, artistic or spiritual vocation, once boundaries are in place.
What does Chiron mean in each house?
The house shows where the wound shows up in daily life. Read these as one line each, then combine them with your Chiron sign. If the houses are new to you, start with the twelve houses.
- 1st house: identity, appearance and first impressions. The wound is visible to you even when others do not notice it.
- 2nd house: money, possessions and self-worth.
- 3rd house: speaking, learning, siblings and early schooling.
- 4th house: home, parents and roots.
- 5th house: creativity, romance, children and play.
- 6th house: work routines, health and service.
- 7th house: partners and close one-to-one relationships.
- 8th house: intimacy, shared resources, trust and loss.
- 9th house: belief, higher education, travel and meaning.
- 10th house: career, reputation and authority figures.
- 11th house: friends, groups and belonging.
- 12th house: solitude, the unconscious and hidden sorrows. Often a strong pull towards caring or spiritual work.
What is the hardest Chiron placement?
There is no single answer, and anyone who names one sign as the worst is giving you an opinion, not a finding. No study has ranked Chiron placements by how hard they are to live with. What astrologers commonly point to is that Chiron becomes more prominent, and so more felt, under a few conditions:
- Chiron on an angle. Within a few degrees of your Ascendant, Descendant, Midheaven or IC, Chiron's theme runs through identity, relationships, career or home. Chiron in the 1st house or on the Ascendant is often described as especially hard, because the wound is part of how you meet the world.
- Chiron in tight aspect to the Sun, the Moon or your chart ruler. A conjunction, square or opposition within about 3 degrees ties the wound to your core identity or emotional needs. This matters more than the sign.
- Chiron in the sign of an emphasised part of your chart. If you have several planets in the same sign as Chiron, the sore spot is woven into your strengths.
So the hardest Chiron placement is the one that touches the most personal parts of your own chart. Your rising sign and the free reading will show you which of these conditions apply.
When is the Chiron return?
Your Chiron return is when Chiron comes back to the exact degree it held at your birth. Because Chiron's orbit takes about 50.6 years, the return arrives at about age 50. Astrologers often describe it as a second coming of age.
Retrograde motion means Chiron often crosses your natal degree three times, and occasionally five, over one to two years. For births from 1930 to 1985, the first exact pass fell between ages 48.5 and 50.9, the last between ages 50.1 and 51.7, with an average first pass at age 50.0. In this era a single pass happens for some birth years, three passes for most.
If you were born in the mid-1970s, it is happening now. For a birth on January 1, 1976, Chiron returned exactly on April 22, 2025, November 16, 2025 and February 18, 2026. For a birth on April 1, 1977, the passes run from June 25, 2026 to January 28, 2028.
Astrologers usually read the Chiron return as a time to face the original wound with adult resources, and to turn the experience into something useful for others. It comes about eight years before the second Saturn return, which first arrives at age 58 or 59 for people born from 1930 to 1990. If you work with yearly charts, the solar return chart for the birthday nearest your Chiron return is worth a careful look.
Is Chiron the same as Lilith?
No. They are often searched together and both are read as tender or shadowy parts of the chart, but they are different in kind.
| Chiron | Black Moon Lilith | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | A real icy body, 2060 Chiron, discovered in 1977 | A calculated point: the far end of the Moon's orbit, the lunar apogee |
| Time in each sign | About 2 to 9 years | About 9 months |
| Full cycle | About 50.6 years | About 8.85 years |
| Main theme | The wound you heal by living with it | What you were told to hide, repress or feel ashamed of |
| Shared with | A generation, then refined by house | A smaller group, so it is more personal |
Chiron asks where you hurt and how that hurt becomes a gift. Lilith asks what you refuse to tame. The full guide to Black Moon Lilith has its own sign table.
How do I read Chiron in my own chart?
- Find your Chiron sign in the table above.
- Use your rising sign to count its whole-sign house.
- Check whether Chiron sits within a few degrees of a personal planet. The free reading lists the degree of each planet, so you can compare them with Chiron's degree from any ephemeris.
- Read the sign and house together as one sentence, for example "Chiron in Cancer in the 10th house: a sore spot about belonging that shows up at work".
- Ask where you already help other people with that exact problem. That is usually where Chiron is working well.

Frequently asked questions
How do I find my Chiron sign?
Look up your birth date in a Chiron ephemeris table. Chiron stays 2 to 9 years in a sign, so the date alone settles it unless you were born within a day of a sign change. For the house, find your rising sign with a birth chart reading and count signs from it: with whole-sign houses, the sign holding Chiron gives its house.
What does Chiron mean in astrology?
Chiron represents the wounded healer: a lasting sore spot in your life and the wisdom and compassion you develop by living with it. Its sign describes the nature of the wound, its house shows where you feel it and aspects to your personal planets show how central it is. The meaning comes from the Greek centaur who taught healing but could not heal himself.
Is Chiron the same as Lilith?
No. Chiron is a real icy body discovered in 1977 that takes about 50.6 years to orbit the Sun and spends 2 to 9 years in each sign. Black Moon Lilith is a calculated point, the far end of the Moon's orbit, that spends about nine months in each sign. Chiron is read as a wound that heals, Lilith as what you were taught to suppress.
What is the hardest Chiron placement?
There is no single hardest Chiron placement and no study ranks them. Chiron feels strongest when it sits on an angle (especially the Ascendant or 1st house) or when it makes a tight conjunction, square or opposition to your Sun, Moon or chart ruler. Those conditions matter more than the sign, so the hardest placement is the one most tied to your own chart.
At what age is the Chiron return?
The Chiron return comes at about age 50, because Chiron's orbit takes about 50.6 years. Retrograde motion usually brings it back over your natal degree three times. For people born from 1930 to 1985, the first exact pass fell between ages 48.5 and 50.9 and the last between 50.1 and 51.7.
Does the free Natal Junction reading show Chiron?
Not yet. The free reading shows your rising sign, the Sun, the Moon and the planets out to Pluto with their degrees and whole-sign houses, plus the lunar nodes. To place Chiron, find its sign in the Chiron table by birth date, then count from your rising sign to that sign to get its house.
