February 2027 Astrology Calendar: Every Date That Matters, Ranked

Last verified October 2026

February 2027 brings an annular eclipse in Aquarius on Chinese New Year, Mercury retrograde from February 9, Mars at opposition and a lunar eclipse in Virgo.

February 2027 Astrology Calendar: Every Date That Matters, Ranked

February 2027 is eclipse month. An annular solar eclipse at 17 degrees 38 minutes of Aquarius opens it on February 6, the same day as Chinese New Year. A penumbral lunar eclipse at 2 degrees 6 minutes of Virgo closes the season on February 20. Between them Mercury turns retrograde in Pisces on February 9, Mars reaches opposition on February 19 and the Sun enters Pisces on February 18. Every date below is computed from the ephemeris rather than copied from a list. Times are in Universal Time with Eastern, Pacific, UK and India conversions. North America is on standard time and the UK on GMT all month, so Eastern is five hours behind UTC, Pacific eight hours behind, the UK matches UTC and India is five and a half hours ahead.

February follows the January 2027 calendar, where Mars turned retrograde in Virgo and Mercury entered its retrograde shadow. It is the busiest month of the first quarter: two eclipses, two planetary stations, two oppositions of bright planets and Valentine's Day in the middle of a Mercury retrograde.

The eight February dates that matter most, ranked

  1. February 6: the annular solar eclipse in Aquarius, on Chinese New Year. The New Moon is exact at 15:56 UTC at 17 degrees 38 minutes of Aquarius and the eclipse peaks three minutes later. That is 10:56 am Eastern, 7:56 am Pacific, 3:56 pm in the UK and 9:26 pm in India. The Moon is close to its farthest point, so it cannot cover the whole Sun and leaves a ring. The same new moon starts the Chinese year of the Fire Goat. A solar eclipse is the strongest new moon of the year: a fresh start that tends to arrive whether you planned it or not.
  2. February 9: Mercury turns retrograde at 5 degrees 59 minutes of Pisces. Exact at 17:35 UTC, which is 12:35 pm Eastern and 11:05 pm in India. Mercury backs into Aquarius on February 18, turns direct at 20 degrees 55 minutes of Aquarius on March 3 and clears its shadow on March 23. The first of three Mercury retrogrades in 2027.
  3. February 20: the Snow Moon in Virgo, a penumbral lunar eclipse. The full moon is exact at 23:24 UTC at 2 degrees 6 minutes of Virgo, 6:24 pm Eastern and 3:24 pm Pacific on the 20th, 11:24 pm in the UK and 4:54 am on February 21 in India. Greatest eclipse is 12 minutes earlier. Mars is conjunct the Moon within 2 degrees of zodiac longitude. Uranus squares both. The second and last eclipse of the season.
  4. February 19: Mars at opposition. The Sun opposes Mars at 0 degrees 46 minutes of Pisces and Virgo at 15:51 UTC, 10:51 am Eastern. Mars, retrograde since January 10, is opposite the Sun in the sky, up all night and at its brightest of the year. It passes closest to Earth that evening in North America, about 101.4 million kilometres away. Two days later, on February 21, it backs out of Virgo into Leo.
  5. February 18: the Sun enters Pisces and meets Mercury. Mercury slips back into Aquarius at 12:17 UTC, meets the Sun at 29 degrees 48 minutes of Aquarius at 16:39 UTC (the heart of the retrograde) and the Sun enters Pisces at 21:33 UTC, which is 4:33 pm Eastern and 3:03 am on February 19 in India.
  6. February 3: Venus enters Capricorn. At 14:30 UTC, 9:30 am Eastern. Venus stays in Capricorn until March 1, so love and money turn practical and committed for Valentine's season. It squares Saturn on February 13, the day before Valentine's Day.
  7. February 8: Uranus turns direct at 1 degree 41 minutes of Gemini. At 12:23 UTC, 7:23 am Eastern, after five months of retrograde motion that began on September 10, 2026. Plans that stalled around change, freedom and technology start to move again.
  8. February 10: the Sun opposes Jupiter. Exact at 00:28 UTC on February 11, which is 7:28 pm Eastern on February 10. Jupiter, retrograde in Leo, reaches opposition and its brightest of the year. Big promises and big feelings, especially around pride and recognition.

February opens with the Sun at 12 degrees of Aquarius, Mercury on the last degree of Aquarius about to cross into Pisces, Venus late in Sagittarius and Mars retrograde at 7 degrees of Virgo. Jupiter is retrograde in Leo, Uranus retrograde in Gemini until the 8th. Saturn and Neptune move forward in early Aries and Pluto in early Aquarius. No exact aspect between the planets falls from February 21 to February 28, so the last week is the quiet one. For the whole year at a glance, see the 2027 astrology calendar.

Week by week

February 1 to 7: the eclipse and the new year. Mercury slips into Pisces on the evening of January 31 in North America and squares Uranus on the 2nd, so news arrives sideways. Venus enters Capricorn on the 3rd and squares Neptune on the 5th: romance with a reality check. The annular eclipse lands on the 6th, a Saturday, mid-morning in the Americas and evening in the UK and India. Chinese New Year falls the same day. Mercury opposes Mars on the 7th and Venus trines Mars that evening in North America, so a hard conversation can end softly.

February 8 to 14: the stations and Valentine's Day. Uranus turns direct on the 8th and Mercury turns retrograde on the 9th, both inside a 47-hour void-of-course Moon. The Sun opposes Jupiter on the evening of the 10th in North America. Venus squares Saturn on the morning of the 13th, testing a commitment before the weekend. The first quarter Moon in Taurus arrives in the small hours of Valentine's Day in the Americas.

February 15 to 21: the most intense week of the month. Mercury, moving backward, opposes Mars a second time and squares Uranus a second time on the 16th. Mars squares Uranus on the 17th. On the 18th Mercury re-enters Aquarius, meets the Sun and the Sun moves into Pisces. Mars reaches opposition on the 19th and the Snow Moon eclipse peaks on the evening of the 20th in the Americas. Mars backs into Leo on the 21st. Tempers and surprises run high, so keep your plans flexible.

February 22 to 28: the quiet week. No exact aspects between planets, just Mercury retrograde in Aquarius, Mars and Jupiter retrograde in Leo and the Sun moving through early Pisces. The last quarter Moon in Sagittarius falls just after midnight on the 28th in the Eastern zone. Use the week to finish, review and rest before Mercury turns direct on March 3 and Venus enters Aquarius on March 1.

Is there an eclipse in February 2027?

Yes, two. The annular solar eclipse at 17 degrees 38 minutes of Aquarius peaks at 15:59 UTC on February 6, and the penumbral lunar eclipse at 2 degrees of Virgo peaks at 23:12 UTC on February 20. They form one eclipse season: the Sun is 3.3 degrees from the North Node at the solar eclipse and 11.9 degrees past it at the lunar eclipse, with the full Moon near the South Node.

The ring of the solar eclipse is visible from parts of southern South America, where Punta del Este in Uruguay sees it for about five and a half minutes with the Sun high in the sky, and from West Africa at sunset, including Accra, Lome and Lagos. Montevideo, Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro and Santiago see a partial eclipse. It is not visible from the United States or Canada. Never look at the Sun without certified eclipse glasses.

The lunar eclipse is subtle: the Moon only passes through Earth's faint outer shadow. The penumbral phase runs from 21:11 to 01:13 UTC (4:11 to 8:13 pm Eastern). The Moon is up at greatest eclipse in London, Cairo, Johannesburg, Mumbai and Rio. In New York it rises during the eclipse. Paths, times and the August total eclipse are in the eclipses 2027 guide.

A zodiac wheel of the 2027 eclipses, computed from the ephemeris. The lunar nodes are the two points where the Moon's tilted orbit crosses the Sun's path. An eclipse can only happen while the Sun is within about 18.5 degrees of a node, so 2027 has 2 eclipse seasons: Jan 23, 2027 to Feb 26, 2027, around the North Node in Aquarius and Jul 16, 2027 to Aug 22, 2027, around the South Node in Leo. The 5 eclipses are: a annular solar eclipse on February 6, 2027 at 17 degrees 38 minutes Aquarius, a penumbral lunar eclipse on February 20, 2027 at 1 degrees 59 minutes Virgo, a penumbral lunar eclipse on July 18, 2027 at 25 degrees 58 minutes Capricorn, a total solar eclipse on August 2, 2027 at 9 degrees 55 minutes Leo and a penumbral lunar eclipse on August 17, 2027 at 24 degrees 4 minutes Aquarius.

Why 2027's eclipses come in two seasons

The outer track is the Sun's path through the year; the inner track is where the full Moon stands, opposite the Sun. The dashed lines are the lunar nodes. While the Sun is within 18.5° of one, a new moon can eclipse the Sun and a full moon at the other node can be eclipsed.

  2. Penumbral lunar eclipse · Feb 20, 2027Moon at 1°59′ Virgo, North Node season
  3. Penumbral lunar eclipse · Jul 18, 2027Moon at 25°58′ Capricorn, South Node season

  5. Penumbral lunar eclipse · Aug 17, 2027Moon at 24°04′ Aquarius, South Node season
The February 6 and February 20 eclipses fall close to the lunar nodes in Aquarius and Leo, which is why February 2027 is an eclipse season.

Is Mercury retrograde in February 2027?

Yes, from February 9. Mercury stations retrograde at 17:35 UTC at 5 degrees 59 minutes of Pisces, which is 12:35 pm Eastern, 9:35 am Pacific, 5:35 pm in the UK and 11:05 pm in India. It backs into Aquarius on February 18, meets the Sun the same day and turns direct at 20 degrees 55 minutes of Aquarius on March 3 at 12:34 UTC, 7:34 am Eastern. The retrograde lasts 21.8 days. Mercury entered its shadow on January 25 and leaves it on March 23, when it returns to 5 degrees 59 minutes of Pisces. Every 2027 cycle is in the Mercury retrograde 2027 guide.

In practice: back up your devices before February 9, reread messages twice and leave room in travel plans. Retrograde Mercury in Pisces is better at reflection than precision, so it suits editing, therapy and returning to an old creative idea more than signing a new contract.

What planets are retrograde in February 2027?

Jupiter and Mars all month. Jupiter has been retrograde in Leo since December 13, 2026 and turns direct on April 12 in the Eastern zone. Mars has been retrograde since January 10. It moves back from Virgo into Leo on February 21 and turns direct on April 1. Uranus is retrograde in Gemini until February 8, and Mercury from February 9. Venus, Saturn, Neptune and Pluto move forward all month. The Mars retrograde 2027 guide covers the whole cycle and the Jupiter retrograde guide covers Jupiter's.

When is the full moon in February 2027?

The Snow Moon is exact at 23:24 UTC on February 20, 2027. That is 6:24 pm Eastern and 3:24 pm Pacific on February 20, 11:24 pm in the UK and 4:54 am on February 21 in India. It falls at 2 degrees 6 minutes of Virgo, opposite the Sun at 2 degrees 6 minutes of Pisces. It is also a penumbral lunar eclipse. At 363,296 kilometres it is the second closest full moon of 2027, 40 hours after perigee, but it misses both common supermoon rules. Mars, at its brightest of the year, is conjunct the Moon in the zodiac, less than 2 degrees away in longitude and about 6 degrees away in the sky. In the Chinese calendar the same date is the Lantern Festival, the fifteenth day of the first month. All thirteen lunations are in the full moon calendar 2027.

When is the new moon in February 2027?

The New Moon is exact at 15:56 UTC on February 6, 2027: 10:56 am Eastern, 7:56 am Pacific, 3:56 pm in the UK and 9:26 pm in India. It falls at 17 degrees 38 minutes of Aquarius and is an annular solar eclipse. At 402,700 kilometres the Moon is two days past apogee, which is what makes the eclipse annular rather than total. The next new moon is on March 8 at 17 degrees 35 minutes of Pisces. The new moon calendar 2027 lists every one.

What is the astrology of Chinese New Year 2027?

Chinese New Year 2027 falls on Saturday, February 6. The festival new moon is exact at 23:56 China time, three minutes before midnight, so the first day of the Fire Goat year is February 6 in China and February 7 in Korea, where the new moon falls after midnight. In Western astrology the same new moon is the annular eclipse in Aquarius. That is less rare than it sounds: the festival new moon was also a solar eclipse in 2026 and will be again in 2028. The date rule, the Goat years since 1931 and what the Fire Goat means are in Chinese New Year 2027.

What is the astrology of Valentine's Day 2027?

Valentine's Day 2027 is a Sunday, and the sky is serious rather than giddy. Venus is in Capricorn, where love shows itself through reliability, plans and keeping your word. Venus squared Saturn the day before, so a question about commitment may already be on the table. Mercury is retrograde in Pisces, the classic signature for an ex reaching out or a message read the wrong way. Mars is retrograde in Virgo, so passion runs better slow than spontaneous.

The Moon reaches its first quarter in Taurus at 2:59 am Eastern and is then void of course until 10:58 am Eastern (7:58 am to 3:58 pm in the UK, 1:28 pm to 9:28 pm in India), when it enters Gemini. If you are planning a proposal, a first date or a big gesture, the traditional advice is to wait until the Moon is in Gemini: a lighter, chattier evening. To see how your own Venus and Mars meet a partner's, run both charts through the compatibility tool.

When does Pisces season start in 2027?

The Sun enters Pisces at 21:33 UTC on February 18, 2027. That is 4:33 pm Eastern, 1:33 pm Pacific and 9:33 pm in the UK on February 18. In India it is 3:03 am on February 19. Pisces season runs until the March equinox on March 20, 2027 at 20:24 UTC. Its first days are crowded: Mars reaches opposition the next day and the Snow Moon eclipse follows on the 20th.

Mars and Jupiter at opposition: the planets to look for in February 2027

Two bright planets reach opposition nine days apart. Jupiter is opposite the Sun on the evening of February 10 in North America (00:17 UTC on February 11), at magnitude minus 2.6, brighter than any star. Mars reaches opposition on February 19, at magnitude minus 1.2, and is closest to Earth on the evening of the 19th in North America, about 101.4 million kilometres away. Both rise at sunset and stay up all night, Jupiter in Leo and Mars on the Virgo and Leo border. Mars reaches opposition about every 26 months: the last was January 16, 2025 and the next is March 25, 2029.

Astrologically, an opposition is the peak of a planet's retrograde, the moment its themes are most visible. For Mars that is effort, anger and desire. For Jupiter it is growth, generosity and overconfidence.

The Moon in February 2027: quarters and void-of-course periods

The first quarter Moon on February 14 at 25 degrees 24 minutes of Taurus (07:59 UTC) asks for action on what the eclipse started, and the last quarter Moon on February 28 at 9 degrees 23 minutes of Sagittarius (05:17 UTC) asks what to let go of before March.

A void-of-course Moon is the stretch between the Moon's last major aspect to a planet in one sign and its entry into the next. Traditional electional astrology avoids starting new things in it. February has two unusually long ones:

Void-of-course MoonStarts (UTC)Ends (UTC)EasternLength
Pisces into Aries, over the Uranus and Mercury stationsFebruary 8, 03:52February 10, 02:4810:52 pm February 7 to 9:48 pm February 947 hours
Capricorn into Aquarius, before the eclipseFebruary 3, 12:52February 5, 04:287:52 am February 3 to 11:28 pm February 440 hours

Aquarius into Pisces, the night after the eclipseFebruary 7, 01:46February 7, 16:318:46 pm February 6 to 11:31 am February 715 hours

The 47-hour void contains both the Uranus station and the Mercury station, so the week of February 8 starts slowly by design. If you need to sign or launch, do it before 10:52 pm Eastern on February 7 or after 9:48 pm Eastern on February 9.

What the February 2027 astrology means for every sign

Read for your Sun sign and your rising sign. Houses are counted whole-sign from your sign. The solar eclipse lands in the house that holds Aquarius. Mercury turns retrograde in the house that holds Pisces. Venus spends the month in the house that holds Capricorn, and the lunar eclipse lights the house that holds Virgo. Each sign name links to its February horoscope.

  • Aries: the eclipse lands in your eleventh house of friends and future hopes, so a new alliance or goal can appear quickly. Venus warms your tenth house of career. Mercury retrograde in your twelfth asks for rest, and the lunar eclipse in your sixth brings a work or health routine to a head as your ruler Mars reaches opposition.
  • Taurus: the eclipse falls in your tenth house of career, a fated new direction at work. Venus, your ruler, moves into your ninth house of travel and study. Uranus turns direct in your second house of income on the 8th. The lunar eclipse lights your fifth house of romance.
  • Gemini: Uranus turns direct in your sign on the 8th. Mercury, your ruler, turns retrograde in your tenth house of career, so review the work plan. The eclipse opens your ninth house of travel and belief, and the lunar eclipse falls in your fourth house of home.

What to do with February 2027

Set an intention at the eclipse on February 6, but hold it loosely: eclipse new starts often look different by the next season. Finish contracts, launches and device backups before Mercury turns retrograde on February 9, and plan around the 47-hour void that comes with it. Treat Valentine's Day as a day for commitment and plain words rather than grand surprises, and wait for the Moon to enter Gemini if you can. In the week of February 15, expect friction around the Mars opposition and leave space for surprises. Then use the quiet last week to rest and review before Mercury turns direct on March 3.
